Jesus Prays For Me

Jesus Prays For Me
As a believer I know Jesus died for me, paid the price for my sin, past, present and future. Eternal life with him is guaranteed Yet, I still feel unsure of my future. I still experience some anxiety, insecurity. At those times, this is the verse I want to remember: Hebrews 7:25

This Bible verse tells me that as one of his children, Jesus lives to intercede for me. Another verse, Romans 8.34, describes Jesus at the right hand of God interceding for us

To intercede means: to intervene, to step in, or to plead, on behalf of another.

Jesus not only went to the cross for us, he is in continual communication with the Father and is always speaking on our behalf. He prayed for his followers while he was on earth and is still praying for those who love him.

Do you wonder what he is praying? There are many verses in the bible that tell us. The following are a few I like to keep in mind.
  • He is praying for us to be holy as he is holy. (1 Peter 1:15-16)

To change the way we live. Not in the way we lived before meeting the Savior. To be repentant. To be in prayer ourselves.

  • He is praying that we don't become conformed to this world but that we are transformed by the renewing of the mind. (Romans 12:2)
We are to be different from the world we live in.

  • In John 15 He prays that we abide in him.

Abide : to live, to dwell, to reside in Christ. To intentionally remain in relationship with him.

  • That we bear fruit, meaning that life in Christ is yielding positive results.

  • He prays that we love one another as he has loved us. All I have to do is read the bible to see how Jesus loved.

It's a divine, self-sacrificial love. This is love that only comes from God. It is a godly affection and gentle kindness that can only be supplied by his Holy Spirit, as we remain in him and he in us.

  • In John 17 he prays for our protection - to keep us from the evil one.

  • To be sanctified in the truth. This is God's work to make us holy.

  • That we have oneness in Christ.

  • Jesus prays that we will be with him and will see his glory.

Jesus not only prays general prayers for believers as a whole. He prays for specific instances. In Luke 22:31-32, he prayed for Simon Peter. That his faith would not fail when Satan proceeded to sift him like wheat. He prayed that when Peter turned back, he would strengthen his Christian brothers. And that is what Peter did.

These are all prayers I can join Jesus in praying for myself.

When the trouble of this world begins to get to me. When I find myself anxious, worrying about my life, may I remember who is at the right hand of the Father intervening for me. May I remember I am in the safest, most secure place I can be. And when I kneel in prayer, I'm not praying alone.
